There are two
types of household insurance policies. Buildings insurance protects you against
damage to the structure of your home together with its fixtures and fittings
and home contents insurance protects you against damage or loss of the
possessions that you would normally take with you if you moved. Both
policies cover you against a stated list of perils for example; fire,
subsidence, theft, flood and storm, as well as providing important cover for
your legal liabilities as a homeowner and occupier.
Home insurance can come in three classifications; buildings insurance which will
insure the physical structure of the property, contents insurance which covers
your possessions within the home and a combined policy which includes cover for
both your buildings and contents. There is an optional fourth section of cover,
personal possessions cover, which you can buy additionally to protect your
property outside of the home.

Personal possessions or 'all risks' cover protects you property once you leave
your front door - remember if you only have contents cover, that’s where
it stops. So for things like handbags, clothing, jewellery, cameras,
camcorders, bicycles etc, this is a section of cover you should really consider
adding on. Personal possessions cover can also save you money as you wouldn't
have to buy this cover on your travel insurance - although if you had a claim
it would go against you home insurance policy.
Who wouldn't want to pay less for their Household and Buildings Insurance? Then
again, who wouldn't want the best possible cover they could get too?
