It’s a tremendously popular event that attracts 100’s of Runners from all around the S.E. Some are members of running clubs others are just there for a great day out, the exciting bonus for the county is that we are discovering new talented children who are clocking up race times that are faster than some of the adults! The build-up for the Fun-Run |
| |
Organisation for the Event started in March 2006, a lot goes into something like this and Phil Pittock of the Thanet Roadruners Athletic Club and Race Director was the main driving force behind the Run. Darren Ellis of D.J. Ellis Construction also had a big hand in pulling everyone together, all contributions were offered with ‘no charge’ including the printing of 1000's of Posters by Capital Press Design & Print, Banners by Premier Signs and wonderful printed T-Shirts by Ideas Unlimited.
World champion boxer Takaloo posed for photographs with the children before setting the runners off, he started the race to the cheers and applause from the large crowds.

The Fun-Runners in action! |
| |
Over 400 runners enjoyed glorious sunshine at The Oval on Saturday to take part in what many described as the best Miles & Barr 5k Charity Fun-Run so far.
The return of summer boosted numbers, with 150 entering on the day. From Mums pushing buggies to serious club runners, with everything else in between and including many in fancy dress, the day captured the spirit of what the annual Fun-Run is all about.
For almost an hour a steady stream of people of all ages and abilities came across the line, each and every one with smiles on their faces. Johnny Lewis of kmfm, was running for the fifth consecutive year and several women who had run the Race for Life in the morning took part still wearing their medals. There was an assortment of Pirates and Hula Girls running along with people dressed as houses and rugby players in full Thanet Wanderers kit.
Last across the line was the oldest competitor, 87 year-old John Flitch from Broadstairs also taking part for the fifth year, who finished in a respectable 76 mins to applause all round.
ITV Meridian sports reporter Iain McBride presented the trophies at the end and summed the day. “Fantastic” he said. “Everything that a Fun-Run should be”.

Press Advertisements |

|
The Press Advertising was a huge factor in the build-up to the Fun-Run and Miles & Barr Marketing created a striking campaign featuring the ‘Annoying Neighbours’ cartoon characters to attract people to the Event.
