North Foreland Golf Course
36 golfers opened their eyes on the morning of Wednesday 20th wondering what the day was to bring. They didn’t have to wait long!! The sun shone from early doors and Stuart Barr & Doug Young the event organizers breathed a sigh of relief as they began putting up the banners at NFGC for what was to be a truly testing time for all. |

The day started with coffee/tea and bacon baps, an essential beginning to any good golf day!! Then a round on the infamous par 3 course, some say one of the toughest to play! Too make life a little easier it was decided that all players could only take 2 clubs with them, no handicaps enforced and the lowest score would win the round, oh yes and for a bit of fun we had a nearest the pin competition on the 18th, the only handicap here was that the participants had to tee off with their putter!!

Several hours later with many a lost ball, mutterings and much laughter, the golfers came in for a light lunch, then the BIG ONE, NFGC’s infamous main course, which in the past has been an Open Golf Championship qualifying course. Par 71, windy!! But thankfully the sun was still shining!!

12 teams of 3 battled the elements that afternoon, with many prizes up for grabs!! The afternoon was played under Stableford rules and there were prizes for the Top 3 teams, nearest the pin, longest drive and individual best 3 scores.
The beauty of NFGC can be summed up very simply ‘keep it on the fairway!!’ the rough was horrendous, never mind the wind!!
As evening approached and the early starters were swapping golf stories in the bar, and apparently some admiring themselves on the laptop where we had John’s photos of the day on a rolling display, waiting for the last teams to come in, there were rumblings of a ‘bandit amongst the players’ (for those of you who are not familiar with this expression, please ask a golfer!) Doug was busily adding up all the scores and adding them up again and again and again!!
